Hyannis, MA — The Women’s Foundation of Boston (WFBoston) recently announced awards to nonprofits serving women and girls totaling $1.7 million. In this round of grants, WE CAN is receiving a $150,000 grant over three years. The grant will fund increased access to their services for women in Hyannis and the Mid-Cape. The Hyannis site’s main purpose is to be a program delivery space for WE CAN’s one-to-one legal, financial empowerment, career/work support, and business support consultations, workshops, support groups, and personal development programs including PathMakers mentoring program and GROW groups for women entrepreneurs.
WE CAN empowers and supports Cape Cod women to build pathways to stability and self-sufficiency.
Executive Director Lisa Guyon stated, “having a location in the mid-Cape, in addition to our Harwich headquarters, will significantly increase opportunities for women to participate in our program offerings in-person, virtually, and through multilingual channels.”
WE CAN has had a significant presence, primarily on the lower Cape, for over 20 years. Last year alone WE CAN helped over 2,000 women. With a staff of 10 and over 250 volunteers, WE CAN offers expert support and services as women navigate challenging life transitions such as job loss, homelessness, divorce, health issues, personal loss, financial troubles, and other crises.
“For too long women and girls have been underfunded by the philanthropic community,” said Christina Gordon, co-founder and CEO of the Women’s Foundation of Boston. “It’s vital that we invest in the empowerment and advancement of the current and future generations of local women and girls, and we’re proud to support the important work WE CAN is doing to economically empower women in Barnstable County."
